Online Ad Revenues Grow in Oz

There is a lot of upside to online advertising Down Under.

Australian online ad revenues grew 62% in 2006, according to new data from Frost & Sullivan. Total Australian online advertising revenues are estimated to reach nearly $3 billion by 2010, up from $1 billion in 2006.

Revenues were up in all main categories, with strong growth in paid search (more than 100% growth), general advertising (48%), directories (60%) and classifieds (49%).

The big winner in search was (surprise) Google.

The Australian jobs market is currently very strong, and Darryl Nelson of Frost noted that "the classifieds segment accounts for 30% of the total online advertising market."

"Our observation of the market points to paid search continuing to see strong growth in the future, [and] we estimate paid search revenues to grow to $975 million by end-2010, a CAGR of almost 40 per cent."
