Internet Population Explosion in China

According to an official Chinese government source, the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), the number of people using the Internet in China grew by 30% in 2006 and now totals more that 132 million.

Growth has been nothing less than spectacular. The CNNIC reported that the number of Internet users rose from 123 million at the end of June 2006.

Even before the report, China had ranked behind only the US with the world's second largest population of Internet users.

In addition, the Xinhua news agency reported that the number of people in China with access to broadband rose to 52 million.

The rapid rise in users and connection speeds bodes well for Chinese e-commerce, online advertising and gaming industries.
