Online Advertising Tiny but Growing in India

Online advertising will be the fastest growing segment in the Indian media and entertainment landscape, according to a FICCI-PricewaterhouseCoopers report .

In 2008, the Indian online advertising market is expected to reach INR4.2 billion ($109 million), growing at a 32% CAGR to reach INR11 billion ($319 million) in 2012.

Though growing quickly, even by 2012, the Internet will represent just a tiny fraction of the total Indian advertising market - less than 1%.

Overall, the total media and entertainment market is expected to grow at an 18% annual rate, reaching INR1,157 billion ($33.5 billion). The market consists of television, film, print, radio, music, gaming, oudoor and online revenues.

Music sales were the weakest format and are forecast to grow at a paltry 2% annual rate from 2008 to 2012, reaching only INR8 billion ($232 million), up from INR7.3 ($177 million) in 2007. [eMarketer]
