Some of the biggest players in media from across Europe have joined the Nokia Media Network, furthering its reputation of providing global audience reach on high-quality mobile sites.

The Nokia Media Network allows advertisers to target consumers on the pages of premium mobile internet publishers, operator partners and Nokia services, with click-through rates on the network averaging 10 percent. The new European publishers join other flagship Nokia Media Network publishers such as Reuters, Cosmopolitan and AccuWeather, operators like Sprint and Airtel, and Nokia services including Nokia.mobi, MOSH and Widsets. The additions include the following publishers:

  • Agence France-Presse, France
  • RTL Mobile, Germany
  • Cuatro, Spain
  • Grupo Prisa, publisher of El País, Spain
  • Unidad Editorial, publisher of El Mundo, Spain
  • CNET, UK
  • Telegraph Media Group, UK
  • Trinity Mirror, UK
  • International Herald Tribune, pan-European.

"We are pleased to announce the addition of these top European publishers to the Nokia Media Network," said Head of Nokia Interactive Advertising Tom Henriksson. "The biggest brands in the world trust Nokia with their mobile advertising because of the quality of the publishers on our network. "Agence France-Presse has joined the Nokia Media Network, because Nokia has demonstrated leadership in building a global mobile advertising service," said Otman Meriche, Agence France-Presse business development manager. "Our advertisers are looking for brand-safe, high performance media, and Nokia's understanding of the mobile channel is unrivaled."

Universal McCann: Social Media Offers Huge Advertising Potential

Universal McCann has released an extensive report on the growth and impact of social media around the world. Surveying over 17,000 users in 29 countries, this paper is a detailed analysis that should be read by everyone whose business may be impacted by this major trend.

This 80 page document looks at all the major aspects of social media, including blogging, social networks, content sharing, and discusses their impacts and implications. Some of the highlights include:

  • Blogs are a mainstream media world-wide and as a collective rival any traditional media, 73% of “active users” have read a blog.
  • Social media impacts brand reputation: 34% post opinions about products and brands on their blog and 36% think more positively about companies that have blogs.
  • Bloggers actually value advertisements, not only for the money they can bring, but also for the credibility they lend to their site.

The study also shows how the different social media have developed around the world. For example, this chart shows the percent of active internet users that have started their own blog in different countries:

This is an extensive, extremely interesting study and Universal McCann should be commended for producing it and making it available. [MobiAdNews]

Telefónica, Amobee Launches Global Ad Alliance

Telefónica has launched a global mobile advertising alliance in partnership with Amobee Media Systems. The alliance will allow advertisers to show targeted ads of all types to Telefonica’s 170 million subscribers around the world.

The Ad Server platform from Amobee Media Systems will support all mobile channels with a single ad-server including WAP banners, games, video and music players, applications, messaging (SMS & MMS), ring back tones as well as video & music streaming. This can allow for more precise contextual and behavioural targeting of advertisements, as well as allowing Telefónica to provide a single point of contact for agencies and advertisers wishing to buy, deploy and monitor campaigns across all mobile channels.

One of the strengths of mobile advertising is that it can take so many forms, and therefore foster engagement with consumers across a range of touch points. The down side to this versatility is that is has often been quite difficult to manage campaigns of this sort, since the level of integration between the mobile channels is small to none.

Mobile users will also benefit from increasingly relevant targeted ads, while at the same time enjoying cheaper access to premium services when opting-in to receive advertisements.
Deployment begins in the UK, Spain, Mexico and Colombia this year, and will roll out across the remainder of Telefónica’s regional businesses in 2009. [MobiAdNews]
