Nearly half of adults US adults surveyed by MindShare in January 2008 said they were spending more time online as a result of programming problems caused by the writers' strike.

"Most people believe the strike will continue for another three weeks or a month, so I think they realize this is a somewhat long-term proposition," said Tata Sato, director of consumer insights at MindShare.

About half of those surveyed said the strike would "really impact/change their TV viewing habits."

When respondents were asked what they were doing instead of watching TV, going online topped the list. Reading and watching pre-recorded DVDs tied for second.

Seven out of 10 of those surveyed said they would go back to watching their favorite shows after the strike, but more than a quarter said they might not or definitely would not return. [eMarketer]
