Chinese Mobile Searchers Seek Stock Info

The top Chinese mobile search categories of 2007 have been released by mInfo, a Chinese mobile search provider.

Dining/entertainment information was the most-searched-for category, as it was in 2006. However, stocks & financial information was the category that made the biggest gains in 2007.

Searches in this category increased nearly eight-fold, vaulting it from fourth place in 2006 to the second-most-popular category in 2007.

Rounding out the top five mobile search categories were ringtones and pictures, weather and travel information, and leisure and recreational content.

Interestingly, mInfo found that mobile search queries were much more specific, with an average of five to six words. Web searches typically contain one to two words.

iResearch estimates that there were 61 million Chinese mobile search users in 2007. This year, that number is expected to rise to 117 million and to over 200 million by 2010. [eMarketer]
