Concerns about the economy and rising food and gas prices have not diminished US consumers' interest in buying environmentally friendly products and organic foods, according to an April 2008 Mambo Sprouts marketing survey.

More than half of consumers surveyed reported buying the same amount of environmentally friendly products now compared with six months ago, while 36% said they were buying more.

In addition, nearly 70% of respondents are still willing to spend up to 20% more for "green" sustainable products. To offset those extra costs, consumers are taking other measures, such as using more coupons, making more meals at home, wasting less, cooking more vegetarian meals and buying less bottled water.

More than two-thirds of respondents were interested in healthy coupons and online offers, saving money on organics and healthy kids meals and snacks. [eMarketer]
