Mobile Music Popular in China

Chinese mobile phone users are far more likely to listen to mobile music than are users in the US, UK, France Germany, Italy or Spain, according to an M:Metrics survey conducted in December 2007.

Almost 35% of Chinese respondents indicated they had listened to mobile music in the past month. Spain and the UK were next, with 20% and 18.9% of respondents. Only 5.7% of mobile subscribers were listening to music in the US, the least of any country surveyed.

Chinese mobile users aren’t more active in every category of mobile content, though. According to the survey, Chinese mobile users were much less likely than all the other countries surveyed to use their phones for watching video, using e-mail or sending and receiving pictures.

Use of other mobile features such as accessing news, playing games and social networking was on par with the other countries.

As in Europe and the US, 18-to-34-year-olds consume the most mobile content in China. [eMarketer]
